Regrettably, it’s been a while since we’ve curated a new playlist. Fortunately, we’re back with a new playlist just for Valentine’s Day, the Ramones edition. We thoughtfully picked out the Ramones’ 8 most romantic songs.

When thinking of romantic songs, you don’t necessarily think of the Ramones or even punk as the genre of passionate love songs.
However, while the Ramones (along with The Stooges) ushered in the punk subculture movement, they had some sweet songs dedicated to their lovers.
Joey, Johnny, Dee Dee, and Tommy (also Marky) even covered some starry-eyed sentiments from other great artists.

Despite Valentine’s Day being our least favorite holiday, we’re suckers for romantic songs. So we put together a love inspired playlist of some of the Ramones’ most romantic songs in honor of the day.

Needles and Pins
Originally by Jackie DeShannon, the track’s written by Jack Nitzsche and Sonny Bono. Although the Ramones aren’t the originals of this song, we still consider the Ramones’ version a favorite.

She’s the One
Quintessential Ramones, it’s rowdy and loud. Although at its heart, there’s love.
What I love more is when Joey sings directly to PJ Soles in Rock ‘n’ Roll High School, Riff Randall is our ultimate fangirl.

Oh Oh, I Love Her So
Nostalgic for a simpler time from their second album, this song pays homage to ’50s doo-wop as they pine for falling in love with the soda machine at Burger King and riding roller coasters on Coney Island. Joey Ramone’s a softie (in a sweet way).

Baby, I love you
Originally a track by The Ronettes and written by Jeff Barry, Ellie Greenwich, and Phil Spector. This Ramones rendition is the ultimate example of don’t judge a book by its cover.

Do You Wanna Dance
Originally written by singer Bobby Freeman (1958), it sparked covers by The Beach Boys (1965) and even Bette Midler (1972). While the Ramones’ interpretation was in 1977 from Rocket to Russia. It was also featured on Rock ‘n’ Roll High School, which was my favorite as a teenager.

I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend
The second single from the Ramones’ debut album (it followed Blitzkrieg Bop). The Tommy Ramone penned song’s adored by fans with its straightforwardness, and also, it’s catchy as fuck.

Danny Says
This bittersweet ballad from End of the Century. The Danny featured is the Ramones manager Danny Fields while the song is wistfully inspired by Joey’s breakup with Linda. Who then married fellow Ramone, Johnny.

I Want You Around
The ultimate for me. Straight out of Rock ‘n’ Roll High School and the iconic PJ Soles’ dreams, it’s a perfect song when you can’t stop thinking of that someone special.
