Machinegum is an artist collective, drawing inspiration from an involvement with the audience. Which is what they did for their newest video concept. Watch Machinegum Kubes.
Machinegum includes Ian Devaney, Delicate Steve, Chris Egan, Martin Bonventre, Erin Victoria Axtell, and Fab Moretti.
Moretti explains that the idea for Machinegum comes from the concept of “if a tree falls in the forest, does it make a sound?,” compelling interest to create art that needs both the musician and the viewer to work.
Thus Conduit was created; released last December it’s a synthy new wave LP with a scintillating touch of goth as well as disco.
Following the LP release, Moretti partnered with architect Joseph Vescio on a launch event that would feature a band’s live performance. The duo installed pink gumball machines around New York City that dispensed pink quarters to grant admission to the art exhibit/performance back in January.
After the performance, the band invited audience members to exchange personal items for cassette tapes; this refreshing interaction among musicians and fans made it all unique.
Keeping with the theme, Moretti crowd-sourced from fans via email to record on your phone cameras. The list includes everyday actions like waking up, brushing your teeth, doing push-ups, and laughing.
