Los Angeles-based songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Ethan Gruska has given us the euphonious follow up to his 2017 solo debut, SLOWMOTIONARY.
While currently producing Phoebe Bridgers album (co-producing her first album also), previously produced for Fiona Apple and Manchester Orchestra along with working with Matt Berninger (The National).
Gruska’s been keeping busy in the studio, and it’s evident how comfortable he is there, it’s literally in his blood. Although Gruska’s musical talent runs in the family, his ability is all his own.
His highly anticipated second album, En Garde, is proof enough.
En Garde paints a pleasing musical arras with structural touches of electronica that I couldn’t stop listening.
If that sentence didn’t make sense to you, do what William Miller did in Almost Famous while listening to En Garde and then you’ll know what I mean.
It’s been the perfect soundtrack to the cold and dreary month it currently is, conversely because it’s euphoniously lush.
En Garde is a 12-track album that shows a young master cultivating his craft as he also utilizes unconventional instruments to explain his narrative further by adding aural textures that soothe and flow like a babbling brook, it’s whimsically ambient.
It’s retrospective as well as introspective since it embraces the vulnerability of imperfections by making them work for you as opposed to against you.
En Garde is out, tomorrow, January 24th via Warner Records. Click HERE to listen via your preferred streaming site.
