Watch: JoJo Returns with Reflective New Single, “JOANNA”

Chart-topping, award-winning singer and songwriter JoJo has emerged from her cocoon for a new chapter with the release of her new single and music video, Joanna.

Opening with bluesy guitar riffs, Joanna, exhibits JoJo’s impeccable vocals that we’ve loved for many years.
The highly personal and raw track originated as a freestyle – with JoJo voicing the thoughts of her constant critics as well as her own internalized negativity.

For instance, lyrics like, “Where did your acting career go? / You were supposed to be somebody / You were supposed to make more money” strikes back to all the naysayers.

JoJo’s ability to take that unsolicited advice and flip it into a beautifully introspective anthem of her musical rebirth shows her undeniable strength and resilience. Watch Joanna below.

Adding, Joanna is JoJo’s first new release since signing with Warner Records earlier this year, through a joint venture with her own Clover Music.

Previously garnered success with 2004’s powerhouse Leave (Get Out) as well as her first two albums with Blackground Records.
Yet they withheld the release of her third LP, making her unable to release anything other than singles and EPs for a decade.

After filing a lawsuit against Blackground in 2013, was she able to release her third LP Mad Love in 2016 via Atlantic.
The battle resulted in the label pulling her first two albums from all streaming services this past December.

However, JoJo cleverly released re-recordings of her first two albums, reclaiming the ownership of not only her voice but for her art too (our same advice for Taylor Swift).

In closing, JoJo’s last lyric for JOANNA is tongue-in-cheek “You should just hurry and drop your new shit“. That’s exactly what she’s doing with Sabotage, featuring rapper CHIKA, which is set to drop October 25th.
