Stonewall Inn and World of Wonder presents, Stonewall Gives Back! A live-streaming concert on April 23rd at 8PM ET/7 CT; for the LGBTQ + nightlife community. Hosted by RuPaul’s Drag Race judge Michelle Visage and Tyler Oakley.
Set to stream live via World of Wonder’s YouTube channel WOWPresents with all proceeds from the event will go directly into a fund where industry professionals can apply for emergency assistance. These funds will be $1,000 grants based on need (as well as a first-come, first-serve basis) to those who have lost their livelihood due to the current pandemic and are struggling to afford fundamental necessities.
Additionally, impacted industry professionals can apply for a grant at HERE.
“The Stonewall Inn, for decades, served as a beacon of hope in the LGBTQ+ community. In that same spirit, we’re thrilled to partner for this one-night-only concert; to help to the LGBTQ+ community,” said World of Wonder co-founders Randy Barbato and Fenton Bailey.
Moreover, set guests/performers include Allie X, Cyndi Lauper, Rufus Wainwright, Troye Sivan, Todrick Hall, Kim Petras, and more.
Last but not least, the Stonewall riots are a crucial part of U.S. history that shouldn’t be forgotten.
The riot, also known as the Stonewall uprising the series of violent confrontations began in the early hours of the fateful day of June 28th, 1969 between the police and gay rights activists right outside the Stonewall Inn (a gay bar in Greenwich Village). Thus as the riots progressed, an international gay rights movement (and ultimately where PRIDE) was born.
