Back in January, Diet Cig returned with their lead single Night Terrors. Now they’ve announced not only a new sophomore album, Do You Wonder About Me?, out on May 1st via Frenchkiss Records but also another new single titled Thriving.
While it’s been a while since we’ve heard from Diet Cig, the dazzling indie-pop duo are back.
Their newest release sees a beautifully melodic post-breakup anthem with lyrics that describe a disenchanted relationship that’s relatable for anyone. For instance, “Do you wonder about me? I’m thriving, thanks for asking.”
Diet Cig explains further about their latest, “Thriving” is a cathartic, campy release of feelings. It’s about the duality of absolutely THRIVING without someone but also desperately wanting them to notice you doing so. Inspired by the melodrama of reality TV and musical theater, we wanted the song to bounce back and forth between a lavish personal anthem and the anguish of feeling forever beholden to others’ opinions.” Listen to Thriving below.
