In honor of The Marías performing with Mac DeMarco, they’ve released a cover of Let My Baby Stay.
Shakespeare said in Twelfth Night, If music be the food of love, play on. That’s how I feel about The Marías. The bilingual Los Angeles-based band’s music enchants listeners from around the world with engaging lyrics and the essence of mellow psych-soul music.
Of course, Maria’s vocals remind us of a honey lacquered Hope Sandoval (which says a lot since she sounds sweet enough) but still has the broodiness of Lana del Rey is magnetic. Although we also like to point out that Maria has a bit of la doña María Felix’s sultry-ness that oozes through onto the music.
