Firstly, no disrespect to this year’s Coachella performers and headliners but nothing can match last year’s “Beychella” however thanks to Netflix, we got to relive one of the most incredible and historic performances ever with additional behind the scene footage.
Last week, the official trailer for Homecoming was released and gave the world a morsel of anticipation of what to expect in anticipation of Black excellence. The buzzy new Netflix documentary dropped very early this morning and it was very much staying up for.
The documentary is brimming with candid moments that gives viewers a glimpse into Beyoncés world of dedication to her craft. Admitting that she directed the unbelievable spectacle with the documentary film in mind, paying homage to Black Greek letter organizations, marching bands, and step teams in the tradition of Historically Black Colleges and Universities aka HBCUs. She says that though she “always dreamed” of attending an HBCU although stardom beckoned and the Houston native says that Destinys Child was her college experience. Can you even imagine?
So for those of us that weren’t at Beychella last year, we can feel like we were thanks to the whopping 40-track surprise album titled Homecoming: The Live Album which includes a recording of Blue Ivy singing the famous Black spiritual “Lift Every Voice and Sing” and a new studio version of Beyoncé’s cover of Frankie Beverly and Maze’s 1981 hit Before I Let Go. Her cover was produced by Memphis songwriter and producer Tay Keith. Listen below.
