Album Review: Post Animal “Forward Motion Godyssey”

Post Animal Alexa Viscius

Chicago’s Post Animal follow up their critically acclaimed self-written and produced debut album When I Think Of You In A Castle with 2020’s Forward Motion Godyssey via Polyvinyl. Stream now, below.

At the core of this five-piece band is a deep-rooted brotherhood, it’s a palpable and unified energy that works for vocalist/bassist Dalton Allison, guitarist/keyboardist Jake Hirshland, along with guitarists Javi Reyes and Matt Williams.
Equally important is their cohesion helps the band’s evolution, Forward Motion Godyssey continues to propel Post Animal onward.

Their latest album’s impressively written in eight days while in majestic Big Sky, Montana. Not to mention it’s also co-produced by the band’s Dalton Allison as well as collaborator Adam Thein.
With their most telling lyrics yet, Post Animal captures the idiosyncrasies of adulthood towards their psych-rock sophomore album.

Tracks like the mellow Fitness require time to form, but once it does, its easy flowing and entrancing. While the self-titled Post Animal is galactic, inky space-like darkness of the deep bass riffs, reverberating vocals, and wavering drums.
Then there’s Damaging Goods, with seedy guitar riffs and a deep bassline.

In its entirety, Forward Motion Godyssey flows like a lava lamp. Needing a bit of time to form, but its smolder is undeniable. Also, similarly to Post Animal finding their place musically and continuing to develop their sound within their sophomore album, it reflects the quest of being an adult in your twenties — experimental, progressive, and somewhat trippy.

Conclusively, make sure to stream Forward Motion Godyssey below. It’s the psych-rock LP we’ve been longing for.

Forward Motion Godyssey out now via Polyvinyl.
